If you're one of those guys with a hacked iPhone, you might get this error with the InstallerApp, nothing serious, just one of the repositories has changed location.

New Repository Location

  • Go to Sources in Installer.app.
  • Tap the Edit button. Click on the - icon over Ste Packaging source line to delete it.
  • Tap the Add button and type the right new URL for STE Packaging source:
  • Type in the new location.. http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/

Getting Extra Space on your iPhone

PS, It's recommend you install both Community Sources and BossTool (in the Utilities category) and run the Free Disk Space tool inside BossTool in order to relocate Fonts, Ringtones and Applications to the main disk partition and thus, be able to install a lot more applications without space problems.

Note: do this in the recommended order;

  • first Fonts
  • then Ringtones
  • and Applications at the last

As always, be careful with this; haven't done it myself btw.

Update

Just ran the BossTool on my iphone (1.1.4) and it worked fine, did each in order fonts, then ringtones, then apps.

Also try using ZiPhone to update and unlock your iphone, you should get the new sources in the installer automatically with it.

Say hello to the gphone

Right now if you're a developer you'll know about that one big gray area that is the Mobile market. I mean, how on earth can you build stuff on it as easily as you do on your pc?, so many mobiles, o/s's, it's a nightmare.

Thankfully Google have announced today the creation of the OpenHandsetAlliance to basically level the playing field.

The idea is simply to create an open-source operating system in which anyone can write software for it without being tied to a specific handset, supplier or model.

It's called Android, (or linux for your mobile) and it's a fantastic idea; let's hope it goes the distance.

Considering the iPhone is pretty locked down in terms of providers and the SDK it's a welcome breath of fresh air.

Fingers crossed...

Steve Jobs has confirming that the iPhone official launch date will be November 9 with a launch price of £269 inc VAT.

Being a developer I cannot tell you how much this potentially means to the wired world, this little box of tricks could finally give the Mobile-Web world the push it needs. For such a long time the mobile internet platform has been stalling compared to it’s desktop counterpart.

So much looking forward to getting one of these and seeing what makes it tick.

So much potential!
